Residential Rooftop Solar Subsidy

Save More With Government Support for Residential Rooftop Solar.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana provides Central Financial Assistance for eligible residential rooftop solar consumers. The assistance is applied against the cost of a qualifying residential installation, reducing what you pay out of pocket.

1 kW SystemUp to ₹30,000Central financial assistance
2 kW SystemUp to ₹60,000Central financial assistance
3 kW & AboveUp to ₹78,000Maximum under the applicable structure

Please note: Government subsidy eligibility, applicable scheme rules, vendor requirements, DISCOM approvals and subsidy amounts are subject to current government guidelines and applicable conditions. Subsidy availability should always be verified through official government channels. RIJARA ENERGY does not guarantee subsidy approval. This scheme applies to eligible residential rooftop installations only — commercial and industrial installations do not receive this residential subsidy.

Our team can guide you through the solar installation process and help you understand the applicable requirements.

FAQ

Solar Questions, Answered Straight

Practical answers on cost, sizing, subsidy and installation in India.

How much does a solar system cost in India?

The cost of a solar system depends on capacity, the panel and inverter technology selected, roof type and mounting structure, cable runs, safety equipment and your location. As a broad indication, residential rooftop systems in India are commonly quoted in the region of ₹55,000 to ₹70,000 per kW before any subsidy, while larger commercial and industrial plants usually cost less per kW because of scale. Eligible residential consumers may reduce the net cost through Central Financial Assistance under PM Surya Ghar. Component prices move with the market, so always ask for a written, itemised quotation.

What size solar system do I need for my home?

System size should follow your electricity consumption, not your roof size alone. In most parts of India, 1 kW of rooftop solar generates roughly 4 units a day — about 120 units a month. So a home consuming around 300 units a month typically looks at about 3 kW, and a home consuming around 500 units a month at about 4–5 kW. You also need roughly 100 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW. Final sizing requires a proper assessment of your sanctioned load, roof structure, shading through the day and applicable DISCOM norms.

How much electricity can a 3 kW solar system generate?

A well-installed, unshaded 3 kW rooftop system in India typically generates in the region of 11–13 units per day, roughly 340–380 units a month, or about 4,000–4,500 units a year. Actual generation varies with your location's solar irradiation, panel tilt and orientation, shading, ambient temperature, dust and soiling, and seasonal weather.

How does rooftop solar work?

Solar panels on your roof convert sunlight into DC electricity. A solar inverter converts that into AC electricity synchronised with your existing wiring, so it powers your appliances first. In a grid-connected system with net metering, any surplus generation is exported to the grid and recorded by a bi-directional net meter, and you draw from the grid at night or when generation is low. Your bill is then calculated on the net of what you imported and exported, as per your state DISCOM's policy.

Is government subsidy available for rooftop solar?

Central Financial Assistance is available to eligible residential consumers under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, subject to the scheme's current rules. It applies to residential rooftop installations and is not available to commercial or industrial installations under this scheme. Eligibility, vendor requirements, DISCOM approvals and disbursal are governed by official guidelines, which can change. Always verify current details on the official PM Surya Ghar portal.

What is PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana?

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a Government of India scheme that provides Central Financial Assistance to eligible residential consumers installing rooftop solar. Under the applicable structure, assistance is up to ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, up to ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and up to ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. The process generally involves registering on the national portal, installing through a registered vendor, DISCOM approval and inspection, and net-meter installation before assistance is credited. Scheme terms are subject to change — confirm on the official portal.

Can commercial businesses install solar panels?

Yes. Offices, shops, hotels, hospitals, schools, warehouses and other commercial properties can install rooftop, carport or ground-mounted solar. Commercial projects are usually driven by electricity cost reduction over the long term rather than by the residential subsidy scheme. Metering arrangements, permitted capacity relative to sanctioned load and applicable incentives differ by state and by DISCOM, so a project-specific feasibility check is the right starting point.

Can factories install large-scale solar systems?

Yes. Manufacturing units and industrial facilities commonly install systems from 100 kW to several MW, on factory rooftops, sheds, or adjacent land. Larger projects require structural assessment of the roof or shed, single-line diagram and electrical design for HT or LT connection, DISCOM approval, and electrical inspectorate clearance where applicable. RIJARA ENERGY supports industrial requirements up to 2 MW.

How long does solar panel installation take?

The physical installation of a small residential system typically takes two to five working days once material is at site. End to end — including application, DISCOM approval, inspection and net meter installation — the timeline is usually several weeks and depends on your local utility's processing. Large commercial and industrial projects run to a project schedule agreed in advance, typically several weeks to a few months depending on capacity and site readiness.

How long do solar panels last?

Solar modules from established manufacturers are generally supplied with a performance warranty of around 25 to 30 years, with output degrading gradually over that period. Inverters typically carry a shorter warranty — commonly 5 to 12 years — and are often replaced once during the life of the system. Actual warranty terms depend on the specific make and model supplied, and are stated in your project documentation.

Can I install solar panels anywhere in India?

Technically, yes — solar works across India, though annual generation per kW varies with the solar irradiation in your region. What differs more significantly is policy: net metering rules, permitted capacity, application processes and approval timelines are set by each state and its DISCOM. RIJARA ENERGY serves customers across India and will assess the requirements applicable to your location.

Does RIJARA ENERGY provide commercial and industrial solar solutions?

Yes. RIJARA ENERGY designs and installs solar energy systems from 3 kW to 2 MW, covering residential rooftops, commercial buildings, institutions such as schools and hospitals, and industrial facilities including factories, warehouses and manufacturing units.

Can you help me understand subsidy eligibility?

Yes. Our team can explain the applicable requirements, walk you through the process and help you understand what documentation and approvals are involved for a residential rooftop installation. Please note that final eligibility and approval rest with the relevant government authority and your DISCOM under the scheme rules in force at the time — no installer can guarantee subsidy approval.
